Stormy Morning is an image that was created on the fly without planning one morning.
We had headed out to the coast looking for locations to shoot some mysterious looking images
with the Red Cloak as the main focus.
It was unfortunately raining quite hard and the sun was hidden by ominous dark clouds.
The image I was wanting to create was one at Sunrise with the typical red sky and sun rising out of the sea.
It was decided to have a look around and see if there was a cafe open to get a cup of coffee and maybe a bit of Breakfast.
A sign for a cafe pointed down a small road that turned to a track on approaching the cafe building.
Unfortunately the cafe was closed but the rain had eased and a break in the clouds allowed some sunlight to show through.
I quickly set up a single light on my Elinchrom Quadra Ranger, took a light meter reading from the ambient light, set my flash to light up the subject
as I wanted the red to be stark against the darkness.
I got my poor suffering subject into position and managed to fire off about 3-4 shots before the rain returned and
the black clouds closed back together.
The cafe didn’t open and the rest of the day was a washout, ah well can’t have it all…
